Santa Monica

In March 2016, we visited my sister Laura, a travel nurse, in her new assignment location, Santa Monica, CA. It’s too bad the weather didn’t cooperate and poured rain most of our trip, but we still managed to have a lot of fun. We stayed at the Ocean View Hotel which was a perfect location for a short walk to the famous Santa Monica Pier.

Our first night we ate at Blue Plate Taco – delicious Mexican food with prickly pear margaritas to wash it down. From there we hit the town at the trendy Bungalow. The Bungalow is like going to a college house party with different rooms to move around and mingle. We ended the night by meeting (stalking) Owen Wilson.

The next day we had planned on hiking Runyon Canyon, but mother nature forced us to pass. We also visited the Griffith Observatory with hopes to see the famous Hollywood sign, but massive fog and rain prevented us from even seeing the Observatory from the parking lot.  Instead we headed to the Hollywood Walk of Fame – very touristy but an item on our bucket list and the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon.

The sun finally came out on our last day and we enjoyed brunch in the sand at Back on the Beach Cafe.

If you are visiting Santa Monica, don’t miss Barbie’s Beach house. Located at 1341 Palisades Beach Road Santa Monica, CA. You can walk right up to take pictures and relive your Barbie dreams of living in her Malibu beach house.
